Paris St Germain has won Ligue 1 six times since 2011, and the Qatari-backed club is aiming for a third consecutive trophy in 2019-20.
The transfer window was dominated by the Neymar saga, particularly the question of whether the Brazilian would move to Real Madrid or back to Barcelona. In the end, he stayed at the Parc de Princes, and now coach Thomas Tuchel has the task of reintegrating Neymar back into the PSG squad. Whatever they might say in public, Neymar’s team-mates – particularly Cavani and Mbappe – are likely to give the Brazilian a frosty reception.

While PSG is the clear favourite to win the title again, there are a few rivals who might give the Parisians a fight (at least at first).
Lyon has a new coach in the shape of ex-Arsenal man Sylvinho, and although there are few star names in the team, a forward line of Memphis Depay and Moussa Dembele should score plenty of goals.
Lille also has a strong squad, and many will be looking to see how Renato Sanches can rebuild his career in northern France. The 22-year old breakout star of Euro 2016 has struggled at Bayern Munich, but in the close season became Lille’s most expensive ever signing at 25 million euros.
But what French football really needs is for Olympique Marseille to get back to winning ways. Still the only team in France to have won the Champions League, Marseille play in the most gorgeous stadium in the country, in front of a passionate and raucous support. Dimitri Payet and Dario Benedetto form an impressive strike force, and with the experienced Andre Villas-Boas as coach, l’OM should live up to their club motto of going straight for goal.
